About >

My name is Ella Britton. I was the Design Thinker in Residence with the V&A Research Institute between 2018 – 2019. I am now leading the Design for Social Innovation and Sustainable Futures MA at London College of Communication.

More people should come together in shaping the future of design education. How we learn about design needs to change, from the very early years of our life through to higher education and beyond. Design and designers can wield all sorts of powers on how we live, where we go, what we do and why we do it. And as we know – with great power comes great responsibility. I have spoken to people from all over the world who are working creatively and imaginatively for social and ecological justice. From these encounters, I started to extract the ingredients of innovative and socially valuable practice in the cultural and educational sector. I now want to use these ingredients as the basis for a new type of creative curriculum, opening up the design of this curriculum to anyone who’s interested. Let’s see what happens when people who are not all designers re-write the way we learn about designing our world.

This is an ongoing experiment, and I will use this site over the coming months to share learning, experiences and content.
